The free version of the dwMap watch app shows your selected current active route on the Map page and lets you see at a glance where you are on it.
Premium adds notifications (vibrations and on-screen popups) to help you stay on your route. This works in conjunction with the Navigation page. When you feel a buzz from the watch you should look at the screen to see what the buzz means.
Turn by Turn Navigation Prompts
If you are following a route, the watch will be on the lookout for future turns, and around 15 seconds before the turn it will buzz 2 times for a left turn and 3 times for a right turn.
Note not all devices can do the 2- and 3-part buzzes. For example, Forerunner 235 watches will use the same buzz for both. Consult the screen when you get the buzz or beep. Also, you may need to turn on tones and vibrations in Settings > System > Sounds.
This feature relies on getting a good GPS signal and can get thrown off by complex twists and turns. Use it in conjunction with the Map page and common sense. Also if your route is an "out and back", make sure you draw both the "out" and the "back" parts of the route, otherwise it will keep telling you to "u-turn" if it thinks you are running in the opposite direction of the route.
If you want to turn off turn alerts, choose Hide NavPrmpts on the app's menu (press-hold Up on watches without a menu button). This will turn the on-screen and beep/buzz notifications off, but the app will continue to show other on-screen navigation information. Your choice is saved and used when you next use the app. Pull up the menu again to turn them back on with Show NavPrmpts.
Off Route Notifications
If you miss a turn or otherwise go off-route, the watch will buzz and the Navigation page will show the direction and distance to the closest part of the route. The watch will buzz again when it sees that you are back on-route. The threshold for being off-route is 50 m (164') for routes less than 50 km (31 miles), and 100 m (328') for longer routes.
If you are navigating to a waypoint the watch will notify you when you are within around 130ft(40m) of your destination.
