NOTE this optional Companion phone app has fewer features than the https://dynamic.watch website, which is fully mobile-enabled and works great on your phone. dwMap connects directly to the website. However the phone app is a handy way of doing some everyday interactions with dwMap, and allows you to store routes on your phone to later send to dwMap when you are offline.
When you tap on a route in the routes list you will be shown a preview of the route on a map.
- If the app knows your current location it will show a marker (pin) on the map where you are.
- To change the style of the map, click on the menu at the top-right.
You can choose between street map, satellite imagery or OpenCycleMap.
This choice of map style on the phone does not affect your choice of background map style in the dwMap Premium app on your watch. - If your phone is offline, you will still see the line of the route but the phone app may not be able to show the map details behind it.
- The menu at the top-right let you do the following actions:
- Send to dwMap on your watch See Send to dwMap
- The available map types, as explained above.
- Keep for offline use When you select this the route will be download to your phone so that you can later send it to dwMap even if you don't then have an Internet connection. This is a Premium feature. When the route is saved on the phone this menu item will change to Don't keep for offline use allowing you to remove it from the phone if you no longer need it. Offline routes are shown with a "cellphone" icon next to them in your main routes list.
- Direction to start This will launch Apple Maps or Google Maps on your phone with the start point of the route already set as the destination, if you want to drive to the start. This is a Premium feature.
- Rename route This lets your rename this route on the phone and also in your website routes. This can be especially helpful if you have used the Companion App to import a GPX route from another app and the route has come in with a generic or blank name.
- Delete route Caution: this will also delete the route from your website account, not just the list on the phone.
- Find connected Garmin Devices Your Garmin device(s) should show as options at the top of this menu. If they do not, you can choose this option to scan for the Garmin devices you currently have linked to Garmin Connect Mobile on this phone.
