See below for how to view a compact Wind-only View.
Tips and Troubleshooting
You will, of course, need to have your Garmin connected by Bluetooth to your phone in order for the field to be able to download weather data. If the field just shows
⌛️Weather
that means the field is unable to connect and download the weather forecast data.
If the field shows
⌛️GPS
that means the field is waiting for your device to get a GPS location.
The arrow showing the wind direction is relative to your current direction of motion. In the above example, the wind is mostly a tail wind, coming from the left hand side. If you are using Rain & Wind on a watch, you should hold your watch in front of you in the normal way when reading it for the arrow to be in the right direction.
The wind speed shown is adjusted for your direction of motion to give you estimate of how much of it is behind (or against) you. In the above example, the true wind speed is probably around 4 or 4.5 mph but because it coming from the left, you are getting 3.7 mph of it behind you as a tail wind. A negative value for this number means it is a head wind rather than a tail wind.
"Wind-only View" and "Show m/s" options
Rain & Wind has two settings: you can choose a "wind-only view" and metric users can choose to view wind speed in m/s instead of kmh. To change these settings, go to the ConnectIQ app on your phone. (This is the Garmin "app store" app on your phone, not the Garmin Connect app which shows your health and fitness stats.). Then:
- Tap on the My Device at the bottom right of the app's main page.
- Your Garmin device will be shown. If you have more than one then you can choose Select a Device from the menu at the top-right.
- Tap on My Data Fields then tap on Rain & Wind.
- Tap on Settings
- Turn the two settings on or off
- Press Save to send these to your Garmin. If the field it shown it should update immediately.
Wind-only View is a compact view just showing the "wind direction relative to your current heading" and "wind assist adjusted for the relative direction" fields.
Show wind speed in m/s instead of kmh is a setting only for metric users, and is the preferred unit for wind speed in some countries, particularly in Scandinavia.
Touchscreen Features
On some touchscreen watches and Edge cycling GPSes you may be able to tap on the field to toggle between the normal display view and the "wind-only" view. This does not work on all touchscreen devices.
Weather Data Coverage
The weather data are provided by Apple Weather through their Apple WeatherKit service, and incorporate data from other data sources.
